Jean-Michel Basquiat      1960 - 1988

Né à New York en 1960, Jean-Michel Basquiat, d'origine haïtienne et portoricaine, est un enfant précoce et surdoué, baigné dans la passion de l'art donnée par sa mère, qui l'amène souvent durant son enfance au MoMA, un des musées les plus influents et importans du monde entier. A l'âge de 7 ans, il est blessé gravement après s'être fait percuter par une voiture, et est alité pendant une longue période à l'hôpital. Sa mère lui offre alors la Gray's Anatomy, encyclopédie sur le corps humain, qui est sans doute à l'origine des personnages osseux et squelettiques de l'artiste. Basquiat est banni du domicile familial après avoir abandonné ses études après le lycée, et part s'installer avec ses amis. Il commence alors a graffer dans les rues de Manhattan avec ses amis Al Diaz et Shannon Dawson sous le pseudo SAMO (Same Old Shit) et commence à se faire connaître. Il fonde même un groupe de rock nommé Gray avec ses amis. Il est alors invité dans des émissions TV et joue même, en 1980, son propre rôle dans le film Downtown 81 d'Edo Bertoglio.   

Born in New York in 1960, Jean-Michel Basquiat, of Haitian and Puerto Rican origin, is a precocious and gifted child, early passioned about art thanks to his mother, who often brings him to MoMA, one of the most influent and important museum worldwide. Aged 7, Basquiat is severely hurt by a car, and has to keep bed in hospital for a long time. His mother, then, gave him the Gray's Anatomy Encyclopedia, certainly the origin of his bony and skeletal characters. Basquiat is banned from his house when he abandons his studies after highschool, and go settle down with his friends. He then starts gaffitis in Manhattan streets with Al Diaz and Shannon Dawson, under the nickname SAMO (Same Old Shit), and starts to get known. He even founds a rock band called Gray with the same friends. The artist is then invited on TV shows, and even plays, in 1980, his own character in the movie Downtown 81 by Edo Bertoglio.
